Here lately, every time I hear the familiar chords of an old hymn at church, tears prick my eyes, and it's a real struggle not to ugly cry in the middle of the sanctuary. It's the darnedest thing. Given the sidelong glances she gives me every time it happens, I'm pretty sure that our youngest daughter is seriously worried about me.
My soul does a little happy dance every single time we gather together because these people who will nerd out over Scripture with me? They're my people. And it's good to be reminded that I'm not in this thing alone.
The Christian life isn't a solitary life. No matter how hard you try, you can’t do it on your own...you need the community of faith. If you want to grow in godliness, you have to find a local church and go all in. Not just so you have a place to go on Sunday mornings, but so you can be a part of the body of Christ, a partnership of people who are committed to serving, worshiping, and doing life together for the sake of the gospel.
